Listen now | The songs are: Oi Tunjuska (performed by Ruth MacKenzie w. Natalie & Olenka Nowytski); Riu Chiu (The Monkees); Kinderly (performed by the Mediæval Bæbes) 6:42
As I understand it, many of the Mediaeval Baebes songs are taken from original scraps of mediaeval poetry that the lead singer sets to music. They are careful to keep to what we nowadays consider the correct pronunciation, and I believe they use the different mediaeval modes, but yes, they are not shy about making their sound quite modern in some ways.
I chose that song for today just because of that surprise factor. I have other arguably-better renditions of the Riu Chiu, and other great harmony songs that would have fit with the other two songs even better. Once I got into the research I found The Monkees group to be more interesting than I remembered from the 1960s.
Wonderful stuff today, Bill! Thank you so much for assembling, sharing, and writing about these musical delights. I especially liked the Finnish folk song, and I've got a re-kindled interest now in The Monkees.

Thanks, Rosalind. I’ll updare the text to reflect that.
The Monkees were certainly a surprise.
