The songs:
Little Christmas Song written and sung by David Roth (2003)
Spotlight on Christmas written and sung by Rufus Wainwright (2005)

Little Christmas Song was the lead song on a Christmas music sampler CD compiled by Christine Lavin in 2013 called Just One Angel v2.0. Besides being a fine singer-songwriter herself, and one of the founding members of the Four Bitchin’ Babes, Christine is like the a godmother to the New York City contemporary folk music community. Her two Christmas music samplers (available here) have certainly led me to buy a lot of CDs from East-coast regional performers that I otherwise probably would never have discovered on my own.

David Roth (no, not the rock singer David Lee Roth) does not tell very much about himself on his website; you will learn more about what he is like from his Facebook page. Or by listening to this song.

Rufus Wainwright was raised in Montreal and comes from an incredibly talented musical family. His father is Louden Wainwright III (which makes Sloan Wainwright his uncle); his mother the late Kate McGarrigle (which makes Anna McGarrigle his aunt); and his younger sisters are Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche (which makes him the brother-in-law of Suzzy Roche of the fabulous sister-trio The Roches.) As far as I am concerned they are Canada’s musical Royal Family. Spotlight on Christmas is from the Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s 2005 album The McGarrigle Christmas Hour.
